Time for a new adventure!

Time for a new Adventure

Have you ever had that bubbly feeling when you know it´s time for something new and you just go for it…

After going back and forth on what and how to do it, we found ourselves booking tickets for a 9-weeks road trip in The United States… Yes!!!…But wait… how did that happen, and what made us choose to do this you might wonder… Have we set the plan? - No not really…, but there is something beautiful and yet scary about opening up to the uncertainty, to experience and learn new things while traveling…

We believe there is a strong connection to listen within, follow through and not let fear stand in our way. To do something that really freaks us out and see what happens. Because, leaving the apartment, the school, planning for our money, figure out how to travel, do home schooling and what to eat on the road is actually quite scary to be honest…

We aim for awesome experiences and to land with our feet on the ground. And to keep our sanity intact while traveling…

Well, let me tell you this…

Following your heart´s passion will take you far

After a mayor clutter clearing during 2015 and 2016 we, me, my husband and two children, sold our home, our furnitures and moved to the beautiful island of Mallorca. With only a few bags to carry we aimed for more freedom, the freedom to choose what to do with our own time and to follow our hearts.

We have now stayed almost two years on the island of Mallorca and summer term in school is soon upon us… We are packing down the apartment, inspired, anxious, excited and amazed upon how quickly time goes and how things have a tendency to sneak up on us… We live and travel light and choose to keep the most valuable like cosy toys, pictures and a few items that we use in our everyday life.

I can imagine people wondering why don't we don't stay put and enjoy family and friends back home in Sweden… I have asked myself the same question over and over again and the answer keeps repeating… Your soul is here to learn…  Like your soul and mine it´s searching for new ways of learning and therefor I will always be in constant change; in both big and small ways. When I quite my mind I still feel a force driving me forward but it is not driven by fear. Its like it is a cycle and it will happen weather I want or not… but I always have a choice, and maybe that is because I have been given a choice, so I can steer my directions towards what my soul needs to learn.

We had to let go of the apartment so we might as well take this chance and experience this beautiful world.

So the day finally arrived and it was time to head out into the world to experience. So what will it really be like and what challenges lay ahead and how will we deal with them?

We will use Instagram for daily updates, when internet and our locations allows, the videolog so you are able to follow our journey visually and then we use this blog to go more at bit more deeper and behind the scenes on how we actually coped with the challenges.

To be cheap does not always make room for the best solutions, or does it...?

We read on a camper van site that you are able to park anywhere where there is marked so called ”green” on the map, if it is not marked with a sign that states otherwise… So you do not really need to be on a camping site.

As our time before we arrived was really hectic, we felt quite stressed and the first night we slept outside a camping site, "Malibu Creek State Park", that had closed for the night. We did not fold the car seats, we just put the seats back and kept one eye open during the night. A bit yet lagged we woke up really, and I mean reeeeeally early…

The day after, not knowing where to go, we tried to sleep there again, to avoid paying… but we arrived when it was open and it would cost 45 dollars to stay for the night… So we kept going in the dark, heading for a new campsite on the beach…

We then decided to just pay and stay, as we were tired. We aimed for… Leo Carrillo State Park… but to our surprise it was full. Holy lord… so we had to keep driving along the coastline… The lights became fewer and fewer and the night became darker and darker, and when we pulled down the windows we could hear the ocean roar… We felt a bit anxious, luckily the kids where already asleep…

It was open! We paid 35 USD, placed our van and fold all the seats down and whola! We could sleep all four in a row…

So we stayed at "Point Mugu State Park" for three nights so we could write this blogpost and cut the first videologg… Knowing where to sleep for more nights made it all easier so we could get back into a calmer rhythm. So my advice, if you find a spot during daylight, pay the price and get some rest if needed…

Challenges during the last couple of days...

It´s so funny how things you take for granted become so important within just a few days… We love to watch survivor programs with for example Bear Grylls… and Ed Stafford. I wouldn´t exactly put us in the same category, but how much do we actually need and what is basic and necessary to focus on.

Internet (how did they survive in the past… (if you needed to check the route… you used an old fashioned map… and if you booked a date to have a coffee, you had no clue what had happened, if the other person did not show up… if you weren´t lucky to found a phone box and put in some coins). Or if you would like to find a great spot you asked for directions and hoped you remember every tvist and turn.

Wood to keep the fire burning (staying at a windy beach you need some sweet fire to keep you warm; sharing & caring neighbors did the trick. It warms my heart when people share and just hand things over, thinking you might be in need. We had grilled warm hotdogs and marshmallows for dinner, and what a fantastic treat…

Warm tea in the morning and evenings (it´s a must for us tea lover…) Lucky we had some camping neighbors on the other side that offer to boil some water…

Adapter (always smart to buy back home… one can think in after hand… when driving between stores, in a new town, to look for one).

Washing & especially drying clothes (the picture goes without saying...). The less you have the more you wash, if you don't turn them inside out in between… Sand and especially charcoal turn your beautiful children into something found in the wood and that goes for their clothes as well…

Where to sleep (so happy we can sleep in the car, when watching the wind and storm trying to lift tents on the beach and making the sand dance like fairies.) This will be a challenge throughout the trip as we planned to just stay a few days on camping sites… Well, we will see… And how easy... you just pay int the machine and place the ticket in the window... As the state park patrol, also pass to check that you have paid...

Share what we have seen and experienced (there is so much we would like to show… These first day we had to land and take a breather… And to place our ambitions on a level that is doable… So this blogposts is more compact.

We have not really had ourselves in front of the camera much before, so that is a big challenge, but we are happy to face it… Just take the bull by the horn. I used to work as a travel guide and remember my first guided tour. My third day on the island of Cyprus my boss put me on a guided tour with a; you be fine… I had a lot to say for the trip, but before the buss had even left the parking area, I had rumbled in speed and said everything that needed to be said… And when going around for questions, I can be concluded with a; ”I do not have the answer at the moment, but will get back to you…”

After a week we already feel different, there is so much we can cope if we let ourselves…

Keep up every three days as we will keep adding new posts (if we have internet on our side...)

So soon time to pack the van and steer out into the unknown...

Be sporadious and let spontaneity and curiosity for life lead the way, always!
